Ten high school students from China are enrolled at PDS for fall 2011! Families from the PDS community will be hosting these students in their homes -- a unique opportunity to experience an amazing culture first-hand.
There are still opportunities to be a host family back-up or interim placement. To learn more, please complete the Host Family Application and view the Host Family Q & A. If you have further questions, please contact admissions at admissions@poughkeepsieday.org.
Poughkeepsie Day School has a long history of welcoming students from around the globe, and previously has hosted students from Brazil, France, Germany, Korea, Vietnam and Spain. The school’s new international student initiative is a direct extension of the school’s China Studies curriculum, introduced last fall. This year-long elective course, designed primarily online and accessible to students in all high school grades, culminated with a student trip to China. During this trip, the group has had the pleasure of meeting with two of our newly enrolled Chinese students. What’s more, one of our new Chinese families initiated a meeting in their home city of Tianjin, which is a 30 minute trip from Beijing on the local 350 kph train. All were treated to a river boat tour and a meal featuring the local specialty, steamed dumplings. What a fantastic experience!
