Food service news and September 2011 menu

We are pleased to announce that, after a very successful inaugural year, PDS food service is preparing a wonderful menu featuring balanced, organic (as available) meals for the 2011-2012 school year. View the September menu for details about expanded breakfast, lunch and a la carte items (including new grab-and-go options). As a service to busy parents, a healthy morning snack will continue to be served to lower school children.

PDS welcomes Thomas Cosgrove as our new chef and food service director. Tom has been involved in numerous aspects of the food industry for over 22 years, including catering, management and innovative menu design for such Hudson Valley institutions as The Artist’s Palette, Mother Earth’s, and Main Course. He earned a BS in Fine Arts from SUNY New Paltz and has pursued his passion for food throughout the US and globally in Asia, Mexico and Central America. He is also the father of two young children. Tom values healthy and balanced eating and looks forward to sharing his enthusiasm and knowledge for food with our community.

To keep the cost of meals as low as possible, make meal management easier for busy parents and increase the speed of food service to students so they have more time to eat and converse, PDS will continue to employ an online payment service in concert with the FSS® POSitiveID System. This online service allows families to track purchases, update balances on their meal accounts using a credit card or ACH payment and receive email reminders when their account balance gets low. Click here for instructions on how to update your balance or set up your PDS food service account today!

The FSS® POSitiveID System uses a biometric finger-imaging device to identify students and to match them up with their pre-paid accounts. Please visit the PDS Food Service page Quick Links section to find out more about this safe and secure technology.

As always, food safely is a priority at PDS. Families have been given the opportunity to report food allergies and issues during the online student registration process. If you have any questions or would like to speak with Tom further about food allergy concerns, please feel free to contact him at food@poughkeepsieday.org.
