Administrative Positions*

Lower School Head

Poughkeepsie Day School seeks a lower school division head to join our senior administration. The lower school head reports directly to the head of school and is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the division (pre-k -4th grade), including parent-school communication, program development, student assessment and faculty evaluation. The ideal candidate will be an experienced elementary educator, an effective, inclusive leader and a collaborative colleague. S/he will be a key member of a leadership team charged with implementing the school’s mission, vision and strategic plan and helping chart the future of a dynamic and innovative school. Bachelor's degree required; masters's degree preferred.

Director of Individual Giving (new position)

Poughkeepsie Day School seeks an experienced, energetic fundraising professional to join its expanding development team.

The director of individual giving works closely with the head of school, the board development committee and parent volunteers. Specific, primary responsibilities include:

  • Plan, implement and manage the annual giving program with special emphasis on cultivation and solicitation and the growth of leadership gifts.
  • Develop the annual fund case for support, appeal materials and follow-up strategies; coordinate the annual fund calendar; oversee the receipt and accurate acknowledgement of gifts with the data manager; manage the monthly tracking of donors, including a name-by-name tracking of progress on all leadership and major donors; work with annual fund volunteers (with a focus on parents and alumni).
  • Build and manage the infrastructure of a major gifts program by coordinating research of new parents and others each year.
  • Manage a pool of approximately 50 major gift prospects including developing strategies and building in-person relationships.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a collaborative leadership style, creative resourcefulness and a commitment to relationship building. Strong writing and speaking skills required. Experience in an independent school or college is preferred and familiarity with Blackbaud’s Raiser's Edge a plus. Minimum of a B.A./B.S. degree required.

Teaching/Staff Positions*
  • French Teacher (PT) - to teach three sections ranging from Beginning French to French Seminar to students in grades 8 to 12. Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • Lower School (pre-k - 4) Assistant Teacher (FT) - to work with a head teacher in a mixed-aged classroom. Bachelor's degree required; previous experience working with young children preferred.
  • Lower School (pre-k - 4) Head Teacher (FT) - to work with an assistant teacher in a mixed-aged classroom. Bachelor's degree and previous teaching experience in a lower school setting required; master's degree preferred.
  • Middle School Math (FT) - to teach General Math through Algebra ( grades 5 - 8) and to serve as a student advisor. Bachelor's degree required; master's degree and previous experience teaching math preferred.
  • Middle School Science (FT) - to teach courses (grades 5 - 8) and to serve as a student advisor. Bachelor's degree required; master's degree and previous experience teaching science preferred.
  • Technical Support Specialist (FT) - to manage a local area network, provide desktop support and be responsible for keeping computer systems maintained, upgraded and supported; reports to the director of technology. (Note: Ours is is a Windows 2003/Exchange/Active Directory environment with Windows XP Pro SP2workstations. Server environment includes 5 Windows 2003 servers running Exchange and Active Directory, MS Sharepoint Portal, administrative databases, Virus Protection, and Backup systems. Desktop environment currently includes 160 laptops and desktops for faculty and student use.) Associate's degree required.
  • Upper School English (PT) - to teach two one-semester sections of 9th/10th grade literature. Bachelor's degree required; master's degree and previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Upper School Math/One-Year Sabbatical Replacement (FT) - to teach four sections of 9th and 10th grade students (Intermediate Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2/Trigonometry) and three elective courses for one trimester each as well as to serve as a student advisor. Bachelor's degree required; master's degree and previous experience teaching math preferred.
