1990s
A Remarkable Coincidence: The photographer,
Hillary Harvey, and her subject, the photographer, Laurie
Giardino
Laurie Giardino, Poughkeepsie Day School middle school arts
and technology teacher, has been basking in the glowing reviews
of her photography exhibit, Totowa Book of the Dead
at the Clementine Gallery in New York City (through January
6th.) Chronogram, Hudson Valley's magazine of arts,
culture and entertainment, was contacted about Laurie's exhibit
and set up an interview (see the January Chronogram)
and photo shoot of Laurie at work in Poughkeepsie Day School's
Kenyon House darkroom. Was it chance, or once again the creative
forces that drive Poughkeepsie Day School students even when
they have graduated, that Chronogram's photographer
was Hillary (Hoffman) Harvey '93? While Laurie was
experiencing being on the other side of the lens, Hillary
filled us in on what she had been up to since PDS.
Hillary had been very interested in photography at PDS, designing
an independent study central studies class in photography
that was supervised by Barbara Wood '78. A graduate
also of Bennington College, where she majored in photography,
Hillary now works as a freelance photographer out of Woodstock,
New York. (Her Web site is www.hillaryharvey.com.) She does
weddings, editorial work and portraits as well as fine art
photography. Her work has been in juried exhibitions and shown
in galleries and she has kept in touch with PDS by donating
her services as one of the auction items for PDS's annual
Spring Gala.
Noah Lyon '97 recently exhibited his work at Printed
Matter's NY Art Book Fair. His new books include collaborations
with Barry McGee, Paper Rad and Matt Brinkman. From January
27 - May 13, 2007 Noah will be showing new paintings, prints
and drawings along side Robert Rauschenberg, Kenneth Anger,
Andy Warhol, Robert Mapplethorpe and others in "Rock
n Roll Vol. I" at the Norrköpings Museum of Art
in Sweden. The exhibition travels to Norway where it will
be on view June 30 - September 9, 2007 at the Sørlandet
Art Museum in Kristiansand. Noah lives in Brooklyn. Sister
Rebecca Lyon '02 graduated from the University of Chicago
last spring and is living in the Windy City.
2000s
| Our sincere condolences to Sarah Montgomery '02,
whose father, Francis Montgomery, recently passed away.
Sarah can be reached at: syfmontgomery@gmail.com. |
Great news from Adam Lundquist-Baz '03: He received
an Americorps grant enabling him to join an environmental
conservation team during 2007-20087 in Portland, OR. Adam
will be working on a variety of projects such as controlling
invasive species, trail maintenance, environmental education,
etc. He graduated from Bard College last spring with a double
major in human rights studies and interdisciplinary art and
during senior year was one of 10 Bard students who participated
in the World Social Forum in Caracas, Venezuela.
In November, Allison Toepp '03 helped dedicate The
Katherine D. Elliott Studio Arts Center at her alma mater,
Hobart and William Smith Colleges, along with the president
of the college and art department chair. The building features
14,600 square feet of new academic space, including classrooms,
offices, studios for painting, photography and printing and
wood and metal shops. Allison, who is majoring in studio art
with a double minor urban studies and art history, was selected
to represent the student body at the dedication.
