Tell us what you are up to and don't be modest; we want to hear it all: school, job, family and more. Send photos! E-mail us today! Notes as of May 1, 2006 are in blue. Notes received after September 1 are in green.

1940s

PDS had a very special, unexpected visit recently from Shepherd Campbell '46, whose son and daughter-in-law and grandson have recently relocated to Dutchess County from the San Francisco area. Shep told me all about life at PDS in the "old" building, and about Mrs. Gilkeson, Mrs. Seymour and his own mother, Cornelia Campbell, who taught English, social studies and drama at PDS (and about the plays they performed in the barn). He has retired to South Carolina from Connecticut. We would love to hear from other Day School students from the "early years."

We were sorry to learn that Barbara Smith Roberts '46 was killed in an automobile accident on January 26, 2006. After attending the Day School, Barbara attended the Emma Willard School and Pine Manor Junior College, receiving a B.S. from Tufts University. Barbara was very active in her community, especially the garden club and The Ephiphany Church of Lisbon. Contributions in Barbara's memory may be made to the church (School Street, Lisbon, NH). Our sincere condolences to Barbara's husband, John B. Roberts, and her family.

1980s

Caroline Evarts '86 writes that "we had a baby girl on July 23rd and her name is Rhysa, and Jason, Esai and I are all glad she's joined the family. I hope all my classmates will -email me at cooley@cybermesa.com - I miss you all!"

Here's an update on the Moran brothers: After receiving his BA in English literature in 1993, Scott Moran '89 went on to get his MFA in writing at Goddard College in Vermont. Although he continues to exchange manuscripts with his fellow writers all over the country, Scott has devoted himself to his childhood passion of woodworking. After his move to Santa Barbara, California, to share a house with his brother, Brian (see below), for six years, he became a master cabinet-maker, working at the estates of many directors and actors in Montecito (collecting, along the way, enough writing material to fill volumes!).
On May 25, 2003, Scott and Hiromi Tabei were married in Santa Barbara. Hiromi came from Japan to attend the University of Oregon and worked with Brian in Santa Barbara as a cartographer. Scott and Hiromi now live in Boston, where he and a college friend are about to begin their own cabinetry business and where Hiromi is working toward her master's degree in architecture. Write to them: 224 Kelton Street #14, Boston, MA 02134.

1990s

Kudos to Joshua Meehan '91, who received his master's degree in public policy at Tufts Univerity on May 21, 2006, and to his sister-in-law, Karly Nihal '97, who received her master's degree in teaching English as a Second Language at Simmons College on May 20, 2006.

Stephen J. Richards '92 recently dropped us a line. Steve left PDS in 1988 to attend Spackenkill High School. From there he attended Yale, graduating in 1996 with a double major in chemistry and music, and studied organic chemistry at UC Berkeley, receiving his Ph.D. in 2001. Since then, Steve has worked at Abbott Laboratories doing diabetes drug discovery research. Steve lives in Chicago and this coming spring, he and fiancee Anjana Phadnis and will be married. Congratulations!

Brian Moran '94 (who attended PDS from K-10th grade) received his BS in science (geography) from Penn State in 1998 and worked as a cartographer in Santa Barbara, California for seven years. He and his girlfriend of seven years, Megan Webb, of Mariposa, California, (also a cartographer), have backpacked all over Europe and through much of the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. Brian and Megan now live in Corvallis, Oregon, where Brian is a GIS analyst and cartographer for the EPA. He is a serious cyclist and has just taken up racing. You can contact Brian at bcullen9713@yahoo.com and their address is 242 N.W. 7th Street Apt. 2, Corvallis, OR 97330.

We have (happily) tracked down Christopher Richards '94. Chris also graduated from Spackenkill High School and Oberlin College '98, with degrees in violin and biology. He worked as a lab technician doing research for a few years and since 2003 has been working on a Ph.D. at Harvard in the department of organismic and evolutionary biology. Keep up the great work!

Cody DeMatteis '98 graduated from Ulster County Community College, with an AA in
graphic design, and received his B..A. in film/video from Columbia College in Chicago in the summer of 2005. Says Cody: "I have stuck around Chicago (very cheap rent here) working various freelance film jobs. I shot and edited a documentary about a local artist and I've also been involved with a local organization called the Pritzker Military Library. I started working there as a cameraman, and now am the technical director for their weekly, military-themed discussion groups and lectures, which are broadcast on the web. I recently got a job with OnDeckTech, a small IT startup that deals primarily with Macintosh computers. On the side, I've also been doing a bit of freelance music journalism. I covered Lollapalooza 2005 for Remix magazine, and have been writing live reviews as well as CD reviews for other publications. For fun, I've taken up biking. Last summer, I did a bike trip from Chicago to Milwaukee and this summer I participated in the Illinois MS 150 benefit ride for multiple sclerosis." Great to hear from you, Cody!

John Rudikoff '98 reports that he recently graduated from law school. John is a Sarah Lawrence alumnus. Classmate and pal Tay Strathairn '98 is enjoying living in LA and tyring his hand at acting.

Following up on the announcement we posted re the engagement of Laura (Cowan) Osborne '99 in the fall 2005 edition of Currents, newlywed Laura writes: "Luke Osborne (Stissing Mountain High School '98) and I got married on October 15, 2005 in Alexandria, VA. Kierstyn Sharrow '99 was one of my bridesmaids [see picture below]...The wedding was a beautiful day and everything was wonderful! We had a lot of family and friends with us to celebrate. We went to St. Lucia for our honeymoon, which was great. I am now a preschool special education teacher in the Fairfax County Public School District. I have a class of eight two-year olds and every day is new and different. I love it and couldn't imagine doing anything different. My kids are great and adorable! Teaching is a wonderful experience and a ton of work! Other than that, life is settling down. My new e-mail address is laura.osborne2@gmail.com and my new name is Laura Osborne. I would love to hear from people!"

Pictured are Laura Cowan Osborne '99 and Luke Osborne on their wedding day! Congratulations!

Katherine Maas '99 is currently working as the director of the Penns Valley Area Historical Museum in Aaronsburg, PA, having completed a masters in history at Penn State last summer.

2000s
Kudos to Jesse Page '01, who has been admitted as a transfer student to Cornell's agriculture and life sciences program. After receiving her undergraduate degree, she hopes to remain at Cornell in its veterinary medicine program. And congrats also to her brother, Ethan Page '04, who has graduated from Dutchess Community College and will matriculate at Delaware Valley College in Pennsylvania next fall where he plans to study livestock management AND play baseball on the school's division-three team. If you remember the Pages, you know just how important taking good and loving care of their resident sheep and all of their award-winning 4-H activities have been to the entire family.

Noah DeBiase '02 graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts this spring and is on his way to a career in the theatre. Noah hopes to land a voice-over project for Disney in the near future and will tour with a national company performing Camelot in the fall.

Adam Lundquist-Baz '03
is a senior at Bard, participating in the World Social Forum in Caracas, Venezuela this January with a small group of Bard students. They have set up a blogsite which is at: http://forumsocialmundial.blogspot.com./ . Adam's postings are under the name “slimfit.”

Sasha Bush '05 and Hannah Anderson '05 both report loving their respective colleges, Kenyon and Hampshire.

There is never a dull moment in your life if you are Andrew Wood '04. This clip (below) is is from the Vassar College Web site:

Men's Swimming Notches First Victory Over Skidmore
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (November 5, 2005) -- According to Vassar's swimming and diving coaches, competing against Liberty League rival Skidmore is always a season highlight. Saturday's meet proved no exception as the Brewers defeated the Thoroughbreds, 110-103, for the first win of the 2005-06 season.
The victory for Vassar (1-2) proved to be a tremendous team effort. Leading the Brewers by winning two events was sophomore diver Andrew Wood (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie Day School) who won the 3 meter (209.35) and 1 meter (188.63) in lifetime best form. The diving trio of Wood, Noah Fowler (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) (156.98), and Felix Steiny (Providence, RI)(144.23) posted their best finish of the season, going 1, 2, 3 on the 3 meter board to lock up the Brewers' victory.

Andrew took up diving his freshman year at Vassar...talk about a quick study! Other news from Andrew: He spent a summer in China after one year studying Chinese at Vassar, has continued with his juggling and acting while also evidencing a strong interest in both computer and cognitive sciences. He's continuing Chinese this semester and will end up with a minor in that language. Good for you, Andrew, on all accounts!

We hear through a reliable grapevine (his mom) that Woody Chandler '05 is loving U. of British Columbia and making lots of friends from around the world.

Bates College let us know that first-year student and PDS alumna Jennifer Foster '05 was named to the dean's list as a result of her academic standing during first semester this fall. Nice going, Jen.

Keep those cards and letters coming! E-mail Sandra Moore and we'll be sure to post your news. Photos are welcome, too!
