Spring Gala 2007 Benefits Poughkeepsie Day School on March 24

Poughkeepsie, NY- On Saturday, March 24, 2007 the Spring Gala 2007: An Auction to Benefit Poughkeepsie Day School will take place at the Dutchess Golf and Country Club, 2628 South Road, Poughkeepsie, from 5:30-10:00 pm. The annual spring benefit auction includes both live and silent events: art, memorabilia, vacation lodging, dinner and entertainment packages and much more, from the priceless to the affordable. A sampling of auction items includes: four center orchestra seats for the Broadway smash, Mary Poppins, a baseball signed by former Yankee, David Wells, a five to seven-day stay at a three-bedroom, three-bath home in Paris, France, four main box seat tickets each month for six months at Yankee Stadium, a dinner prepared at your home by Chef Kazan of The Main Course in New Paltz and items for the home both large and small, jewelry, dinner and entertainment at local venues and many other desirable goods and services. The $85 per person ticket fee includes a sit-down dinner, drinks, dessert, and entertainment.

Poughkeepsie Day School to Host Dutchess Arts Camp

Poughkeepsie, NY- Mill Street Loft will hold its very popular Dutchess Arts Camp-Poughkeepsie at Poughkeepsie Day School this summer, from July 9 - August 3. With four week-long sessions planned, students, ages 4-14, will be able to use the air-conditioned art studios at Poughkeepsie Day School for classes in drawing, cartooning, painting, clay, stained glass, sculpture, puppetry, mask-making, weaving, papermaking, glass blowing, live action video, photography, drama, set design, the culinary arts, jewelry making, bookmaking and more.

"Poughkeepsie Day School is renowned for integrating a creative, artistic thread throughout its academic program. Being able to offer on our campus a wealth of art classes in the summer months is an exciting, community collaboration of two organizations connecting with matching goals and values," states Josie Holfold, the head of school at Poughkeepsie Day School.Patty Moore, associate director, Mill Street Loft, says "We are delighted to be offering Dutchess Arts Camp at Poughkeepsie Day School this summer. Science series at Poughkeepsie Day School

Poughkeepsie, NY-Vassar Brothers Institute (VBI) is sponsoring a free lecture series, open to the public, called "Science in Your Life" at Poughkeepsie Day School. The first is this Wednesday, January 31in the James Earl Jones Theater, Gilkesen Center, on "The Archeological Discovery and interpretation of Machu Picchu, Peru" by Professor Richard L. Burger of Yale University. On Wednesday, February 7, Richard S. Rivlin, M.D, director of the Anne Fisher Nutrition Center in Manhattan, will speak on "Nutrition for the Healthy Elderly: Is it Too Late?" and on Wednesday, February 14, Vassar College Professor John H. Long will present "Islands and Oceans: How Land and Sea are Ecologically Linked in the Galapagos." All lectures begin at 7:30 pm. For more information, visit the VBI Web site .
