Central study (CS) is a unique component of the academic program at Poughkeepsie
Day School. Through CS, students in grades 7-12 have the opportunity to
choose from a variety of interdisciplinary courses, which combine group
work with independent, in-depth explorations. Students can use CSs to
explore myriad interests by electing different courses for each of the
fall, winter and spring sessions. They also may choose to use CSs to concentrate
in a particular area of interest (such as drama or studio art). Each course
convenes weekly on Wednesdays for four hours; every fourth Wednesday,
the courses meet all day to allow for production rehearsals, field-trips
and other on and off-campus activities. Note: all upper school drama courses
are offered through the central study and/or elective program, including
student-produced productions.
